The Island Showroom stage has booked two big tribute acts starting Friday, January 3, with Simply the Best: A Tribute to Tina Turner. Then, on Saturday, January 4, see George Michael Reborn. This double “Whammy” is the perfect way to jump-start your year. 

Long Live the Queen of Rock and Roll

Tina Turner’s image and spirit are alive and well with impersonator extraordinaire Karen Durrant. Durrant has lovingly recreated the look and sound of Turner’s 1996 “Wildest Dreams” tour, complete with voice, makeup and Versace dress. 

You’ll hear career-spanning hits, including “Proud Mary,” “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “Better Be Good to Me” and “Private Dancer.” The Simply the Best show has garnered rave reviews from across the country. Now, it’s Michigan’s chance to see what all the well-deserved hype is about. 

The legendary Tina Turner had an extensive musical career that spanned over 50 years, from 1956 to 2009. From the early days of Ike and Tina, she pivoted to a successful solo career in the ’80s and ’90s. 

Turner left behind five top-10 singles, two platinum records, two gold records and 12 Grammy awards. She is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member and even had a Barbie doll created in her likeness.

A Faithful Tribute to George Michael

Robert Barko’s “Geroge Michael Reborn” is the world’s preeminent George Michael tribute. With his uncanny likeness and voice, Barko recreates every nuance of the late pop star’s stage show. George stepped into the spotlight as a solo artist in 1984. He became one of the best-selling musicians of all time, with an estimated 100 to 125 million records sold. He had 10 number one songs on the U.S. Billboard charts and won numerous awards, including Grammys, Brit Awards, Billboard Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards.
